One of the best I've seen, was step ladder vs dockyard forklift. The rails were flat as a pancake in the middle. Although grossed out value, has to go to the case of dog food vs forklift on a hot day. That really was smelly, covered in flies within hours and I'm glad I didn't have the clean the truck, (as I wasn't driving it at the time).

That ladder was on its last legs anyway, look at all of the rusted rivets holding it together!

You need to know what it is you are looking at.

 

That's a blind rivet, it works by pulling a steel mandrel through the softer aluminium tube body to expand it. At a pre determined tension the mandrel shears at a weak spot with the remnant of the mandrel remaining in the rivet body.

 

The corrosion you can see is from the remnant of the sheared off mandrel and is of no consequence to the rivet.

 

While red oxidation is mostly a cosmetic problem any white oxidation would indicate movement in the joint and would need to be investigated.
