Fastest screen / shelter hedge

Decent firewood if treated right though isn't it? This is a field setting. No near boundaries or neighbour issues.

Yes leylandii is decent firewood (in a stove not on an open fire).

Any livestock about if this is in a field setting? I would avoid cherry laurel if there was as sheep, goats, cattle and horses can all be stupid enough to eat it despite it being potentially fatal to do so.

I bought a load of the potted Thuja`s @ 6` to go round the school for her in doors as a bit of a wind break and they have done really well. Most are at about 12` now, they can take a hammering if you want to knock them back.

The ones to the right are against the ditch, big difference to the ones on the left that are about ten feet away. All planted at the same time, so they like a drink .

Here is Fridays good news.

A quote accepted for the plantation of a screen of leylandii in 65litre pots 3m high to hide the new metro line in Rennes from a property.

I never thought I'd love leylandii so much!

Project starts on 29th Feb.

We will be working with some of the biggest names regionally in public works.

My plant supplier has been calling me weekly in anticipation.

Got a little area of land I want to hide from the road and also a noise screen would be good, plus shelter. I need something evergreen that will grow quickly to about 8' on the south side to screen from the road and I need to be able to trim it at this height. On the West side I need more of a wind / rain shelter so shading is not a problem here (lleylandii?). Ideally, I need at least 6' of growth within a year or buy grown plants (expensive I guess).

At some point in a the next 10-15 years I may want to rip the whole lot out and revert to pasture so it needs to be fairly easy to pull out / kill.

I'm thinking that I need it in place by next winter so was thinking if I got my skates on I could get some small plants going in pots now, ready to plant out in December?

Any thoughts? Thanks.

I found something recently by accident but I can't remember what it was, it was suggested as a better alternative to leylandii as it could be cut back while still staying green, it may have been Thuja but I honestly can't remember. It was on ebay.

Might be worth searching for hedge conifers.

This may have been it, THUJA PLICATA ATROVIRENS
