I have seen "Black Powder Log Splitting" videos on "You Tube",has anyone used this technique in the U.K for splitting big trunks? I realise (1) legislation would make it very difficult/impossible to purchase, store and use black powder for log splitting. (2) Black Powder looks quite expensive to buy. Look forward to your comments.

Got a feeling, that even if you can get it with correct permit. There's a maximum quite small quantity one can store at any given time. You want to ask someone who keeps and or fires a cannon or musket.

I expect you can hold enough to split a log but if you apply for a explosive licence for shooting you can only use the powder for shooting/re-enactment.

This application form is for use only: (a) where the applicant is applying for those explosives items that are for use solely in their firearms and/or shotguns; or (b) the acquisition of blackpowder (gunpowder) in connection with re-enactments, where the applicant is not required to hold a certificate under the Firearms Acts. Any person requiring additional explosives that do not fulfil this purpose must complete a form ER 4.

You could try phoning your local firearms licencing team, it would be fun to hear their response.
