Where can I buy ground protection mats?

I don't want to drive lorries across lawns or drop massive chogs onto them but just tracked chippers, grinders and reasonable branches on them and use them for walkways when the ground is soaking.

I know I could use ply but its heavy when it's wet and doesn't last that long

Thanks will

Ply is heavy yes, but so are some of the alternatives. Company i work for use metal tank tracks, not sure if they have a proper name or not. They are just as heavy as ply boards though.

A few years back I had a particularly muddy yard with some spots I was guaranteed to get stuck in. I bought a few sheets of ply, had them cut in half length ways and tacked carpet onto them. Worked quite well.

We use ground protection mats. New they are very expensive, but if you speak to the companies after the summer (i.e. when the festivals have finished) they will often sell second hand boards for half price. These are the same, just a bit scuffed but wouldn't be an issue for a tracked chipper etc.

Try any of the 'bigger' plant hire companies - I worked for a one man band one, then moved to a national one.

The national one had thousands of them, and would sell you them. :thumbup1:

Edit, it was Nixon Hire I worked for, and we used 100's at places like the Hoppings fair on the town moor.
