Cheap & cheerful (used) chipper recommendations?....

I bought an old bear cat chipper off a mate of a mate, it's 8 inch single roller fed with no stress control.

It's heavy 1.2 tons

It had water and crap in the diesel tank (sorted now)

It looks like a dog

It's a bit of a pain to feed

It blocks up all the time if you don't watch it

But- once you get used to using it it's ok and it paid for itself in a month.

Six months time when it has earns me enough money to buy a better one I shall sell it.

Id rather have tw 150!

But you get what you pay for, and for a cheap chipper I would reccomend it

I have a entec / early timberwolf for sale served me very well, will service before sold, will also repaint, just to tidy it up a bit, I will be honest, it's old and a bit tatty around the edges but works really well, never let me down, only selling because of a new one bought because I didn’t want to pay to much tax. £3000 ono

For a low budget you want a large chipper. The little ones are not built to last. They were designed concentrating on making them legal to tow.

I've a Vermeer 935i I'll be looking to sell soon, 9" 50hp working brakes recent cutter wheel bearings and other parts and will be fully resprayed in 2 pack.

Thanks all. Does anyone make a chipper that would run off the hydraulics on a mini digger?

Cheers, steve

Maybe a shredder? Even 4 inch chippers start at about 13hp You could make an adaptor to hold a 4 inch chipper with a mini digger though.

What I mean is to power a chipper via the mini digger auxiliary hydraulics.... then I wouldn't need to have a power unit on the actual chipper.

The power unit is there to turn the flywheel, even if you used the hydraulics off the digger to turn the rollers you still need power to turn the flywheel with the blades. you can get hydraulic chippers but i think they would need a much greater flow than a mini digger puts out.

It could be done but I have serious doubts that a mini digger has enough power to run it for it to be worth while. What size do you want? 6 inch is usually around 35hp so you'll need at least that much in hydralic power (not power of the digger)

Well, I'd like a chipper that does 12" diameter  ....but, uuuum, errrr.... can't afford it! :001_huh:

How much do 3" or 4" chippers tend to sell for?.... could I pick one up for £1k?

cheers, Steve
