  1. Where you based? Haulage might be steep in price if you are to far. We have first refusal on the job so I need to get my head around it plus line up buyer's.
  2. Hi. Yeah that's extracted. It's thinning. 3 men. Tractor, timber trailer. 2 men felling plus mini digger with grab to make some timber excessable. Distance to landing 450 yards. Fair level land but very wet.
  3. The last job I did extraction I was getting £12 per tonne on the landing. Due to ground conditions I got 4 6t loads a day. That didn't add up either.
  4. Hi. I've just been asked to fell approx 250 cube of mixed hardwood. Paying the landowner £15 a cube extracted. So my outlay £4000. Plus my time felling extraction labour, Ware and tare ECT. So let's say £450 a day. So rd side 250 cube @ £45 = £11.250. 20 days labour is £9000. The maths don't add up. I will stick to tree surgery I think. How do you forestry boys keep ya heads above water. Hand cutting. Defo not. Or are my figures well out.
  5. They just felled. Then the chap who called me in cut it all to 5m 3m 2.4 's But yeah would be easier to winch tree lengths . Couldn't weave the tractor around all the standing timber to pick it up.hence we winched it all to easy access points now. Cheers for the info. I will have to just learn the hard way. It's the first commercial forestry work we have done. We have done masses of site clearance work but all we have been in control of price.
  6. This is where it all gets difficult. I got called into extraction of felled timber as a sub contractor. Environment agency had felled the all over the shop. So I winched it all into piles now accessible to the tractor. Now got to load and haul and stack on landing. So I'm just a middle man really call in to tidy someone else's mess.
  7. We run a 85hp alpine tractor and 6t timber trailer. We are based near Launceston. [email protected]
  8. The timber we are extracting is Sitka & Douglas. So £35 i reckon is very high. £12 per tonne on the landing is what I've been told I assume plus vat. Distance hauled ~600 yards So if a lorry loads was pulled this would equate to £300 plus vat ? ? ? Does this sound right?
  9. Hi. Was just wondering what the current rates are per tonne forwarding. Plus rates for winching 2 man and tractor set up. This is all for first thinning. Not clear fell. I'm running a alpine tractor and 6 tonne trailer and I can't see how the money adds up. All advice given would be greatly appreciated. I assume prices would be plus vat unless stated.
  10. Hi all. I'm after larch or western red for milling cladding. 2.5m poles 20 plus off. 4.5m 15 off. Clean these measurements are for. Can collect with tractor and forestry trailer if local. 15 miles off Launceston
  11. Hi, I run a pasquali 85hp orian with a votex 150 forestry mulcher. It's a beast, I wouldn't have a cabless model. Plus a belly plate is a must. It's been a great bit of kit but overall cost is very high. So you defo need alot of work lined up. The seppi in that vid is 15 grand plus tractor, gess 20 grand, . These mulchers use hp
  12. Call Atkinson vos. They know everything and more about mogs
  13. Just a short vid of a nice easy tree removal. Anyone go any pointers as to how to film better whilest you are trying to get on with the job. It's almost feels like you need a extra man just for filming. Next big job I have got a drone in and want to get it right.
  14. We have the same problems down here, young lads coming into the trade with lots of money backing them claiming there a Arborist, I'm sorry no, chainsaw ticket , climbing tickets don't make you a arborist, there is alot more to it. Please please make this trade better regulated.
  15. Riko have since been in contact with me and have sorted out our initial problems. We both have excepted mistakes where made. The outcome is I will now deal with them again for a future perchase. I would like to thank Callum for his time and understanding of our concerns.
  16. I have found on the few big tree jobs we filmed they never look that impressive watching them back. The true size is lost with gopro wide angle lenses. Do you have any hints, Or tips to show true nature of size.
  17. I have a 07. They rust. So much rust. Gears are clunky. But takes loads well. And never miss a beat. Transit seem to rust also so make sure you shop around. Vw or merc best but not great for small sites.
  18. 7,500 from riko. I wouldn't and couldn't recommend using them. Poor coustomer care. Sold with no pto sent with no manual. Pto was a further 400 quid. I expect better when spending that sort of money. Go straight votex.
  19. I was told to maintain it well and greese the king pins on the front steering. They won't lift a huge amount without a weight on the back but 250-500kg is plenty
  20. I have a pasquali orion 85hp with loader. Couldn't fault it for being stable powerful and great in the woods. Belly plate is a must. I run mine with a 6tonne farmi timber trailer and a votex forest mulcher. Bit noisy in cab with it smashing 4inch trees. Price was alot. Really alot. Could own a very tidy conventional tractor or mog for the money. But had them already. key is offering something no one else has.
  21. Well. If I could post a picture I would. The stick is 1/4 sawn at mo. In 6ft lengths as big as my crane would lift. 500kg so blanks could be as big as you like. The tree was 5ft accross the butt. There is some decay but it very brown. The end of this film might give you a idea.
  22. Hi. I was wondering if anyone on here could tell me the value of brown oak burrs. I have just taken down a lovely big tree and plan to mill some but there will be lots left that I can't use sutible as blanks.
