Price don't always win,

 

In fact in procurment silly cheap prices are always thrown out as being un realistic.

 

Tbf the guy is asking for prices. It's not procurement, it's a householder on an estate, with an overgrown conny. This one will be about price.

From the pics looks an easy half day. 320 including the stump. Might be more if I saw it in the flesh though.

theres always one

realistically its going to be 35-40ft tall, there will be a truckload of timber and one of chip, maybe more if your unlucky then youll probably have a bulkbag of rakeup at least, more if youve got to cut all the timber up small to lift it onto the truck then you might have a couple of hours stump grinding thrown in as well

so if youve got one truck potentially youve made 7 trips bacwards and forwards by the time youve tipped the chips, dropped the chipper back, shifted the logs gone back with the grinder etc

suddenly your half a days not gone very far

realistically its a days work

I know what you mean mick it was just encouragement not to go to cheap. In my younger days I got burned on a few connies you forget how much more material there is than a similar sized pop or ash etc

Wow thanks for the advice it is really appreciated. No wonder I am not getting these jobs I am way over the top with my prices.

 

Here is one I did not get BIG Ash. Take out fencing lift slabs to grind out a bloody big stump, remove, take ALL away. Did not think I could do it in a day OLD and now SLOW and at least two trips to get rid of the chippings and wood. I quoted ?????..........................lets see what you would do on this one.

At risk of being Mr Picky, and only playing Devil's advocaat (nod to seasonal beverage), there's only a labourer available, not a second climber. Rigging is mentioned but technically an astute customer ought to ask for suitable qual's and possibly reference to previous customers. You'd fail at the first with a switched on customer. Are you providing a written quote that details the levels of competence and staffing necessary for climbing and rigging.

 

Maybe it's not your pricing but possibly your presentation?

 

Just a thought fella. I've secured jobs where I've been 100's over nearest quote but have taken the job because I provided a comprehensive written quote rather than an intake of breath, a pause and plucking a number out of the air which is what I'm sometimes told the other contenders have done.

 

Think Stella Artois - reassuringly expensive!

 

A fringe benefit is that it tends to wheedle out the PITA customers!

Hey Kevin, you have a point about presentation, and you're right about written quotes, although I'd always tell them straight off on a job as simple as this, we can only speculate about Padman's sales patter but......

I have never in 20 years on both sides of the channel been asked for qualifications.

Ps Padman, we've done our bit, now tell us what YOU quoted.

This is a crap game, you could tell us any price after everyone else as told you what they think. Please PM me with the price you put on the job, then we can see what you're really about.

I always do a written quote with plenty of bull I aim to be reassuringly expensive! :biggrin:
