Holly as firewood

I would consider it a poor choice to burn such a slow grown wood like holly. A lot of timber artisans would reveal lovely items encapsulated in such a timber as that...............

It an awful waste to burn Holly..................

Agreed to an extent but do you think I can get wood turners to show an interest? 'Too big', 'too small', 'wrong shape', 'it'll split'... There is the odd exception (Steve!) but most of it goes in the firewood pile.

Not that I study species' burning qualities but I get the impression that (dry) holly burns quietly, i.e. it doesn't spit or crack and it gives a gently flame - no roaring fire comes from it.

Makes for excellent firewood, but The May Queen lives there during the winter, so watch you don't get rid of it all at once. Otherwise you'll be cursed by perpetual rain, grey skies and wind.

Forgot to add....good for mauls when dry, if froes are your thing

It flipping well wasn't good for my maul!

Split it whilst green, same as Euc.

I guess.

If you cut down an Elder without asking it, you'll be cursed. As the saying goes that a wise woman will sometimes take the form of an Elder Tree when resting.

Now I'm not superstitious but in the last year I've done two elder clearance jobs. Three days after the first one my truck was written off whilst parked up.

The second job I did two days after my truck was broken into and all my gear nicked. I'd like to think it's just coincidence either that or I've annoyed the elder goddess 😠
