Ladders for tree work

Used ours today conifer topping started climbing and soon came to the conclusion that ladders would be better. Recently crown raised 20 birch on a car park again ladders and a strop as it was much faster and more efficient. I don't particularly like ladders but used safely in the right circumstances can be invaluable.

conifers want topping 2" above ground so why use ladders lol

Will rarely take them on site these days as the amount of room they take up and the effort in moving ladders around it's not worth it if your climbing SRT, a decent rope walker system takes is a lot less effort and is safer but they do have a place I guess as much as I hate working off them!

I use ladders as my main method of access. I also have no qualms about using a chainsaw from a ladder if the situation lends itself. Its like anything else, use your common sense.

 

Agreed. I use a ladder to get in to pretty much every tree I climb, to add one more opinion

Telescopic ladders take up minimal room,down side is they ll only get you to the 1st limb

Could probably jump higher than a set of telescopic ladders would get you .... Used ladders plenty today as the tree did not lean itself to SRT at all..... the tail of my working rope would of been dunked in this all day !

Yes I will happily second that ... Common sense is the key here

 

I find it odd and very surprising how lots of tree workers I have met and worked with over the years seem to have very little in the way of common sense? On the other hand I have met some real knowledgeable guys
