I added my commencal mountain bike on gumtree today for £500. Someone messaged asking if it was still available, I replied yes then received this -

Great! please consider it sold and please cancel every other appointment regarding it as i am willing to pay your full asking price because i need to buy it for my cousin asap, i have read through the advert and I'm totally satisfied with it,sadly i would not be able to come personally to collect due to my hearing loss and me being in wheelchair.

I have a courier agent that would help me to pick it up at your preferred location after you have received your money and i'll pay you via PayPal today.

Where is the pick up location so that i can inform the courier agent about it now?

There's some proper scum out there and I don't understand the full workings of this con but it clearly isn't kosher

That's what I told him, cash only. What's the reversable PayPal thing? They credit you then debit you?!?

Yep . Don't know the ins and outs of it but it can be done .

Cash on collection only i would say. Sounds like a scam, I'm surprised in the email they never said they were a royal prince from calcutta who needed the bike to get to the bank then they would pay you a million quid for it….

Buyer protection with paypal. So they pay you then claim they never received the bike, open a case and more often than not paypal refunds them and debits you. You don't know who they are so they have your bike and money.

Seems us arbs have a lot of common interests, and are generally sound and don't rip each other off.

Mountain bikes, shooting, snowboarding etc.

We should set up a mini in-house eBay thing on Arbtalk to give each other first dibs.

Steve could take 10% commission to put back into the costs of running the site.

We could call it 'Shite Corner'.
