Sounds a plan ... I'll try and not talk politics over a pints though it turns the night sour..

We could do with sectaries though for more rounds

Genius.

I'm pretty sure Senators Rachel and Ruth would get on while we scrapped out our Fascist/ Communist/ Liberal/ Tory/Democrat/Republican views outside.

And that's just me.

God knows which side you'd take!

What we need is a balanced immigration policy.

My wife is American and works here in the UK for the same charity I do. (Helping people to break free from addiction and dependent lifestyles)

She doesn't claim benefits. she has generated her own support base in the US to finance the work she does here. Most drug rehabs in the UK that rely on government funding are closing because the funding is being cut. (Itself another topic) We have been married for 4 years but she can't get a spousal visa for the UK. Being volunteers we don't earn enough to qualify. Surely such a contribution to society would qualify her for a visa. But seeings as the visa process is a purely box ticking exercise there is no weighing of merit in individual cases.

It really seems unfair when I consider the recent situations where people who have been involved in terrorism etc.. are not only allowed to stay in the UK but treated like VIP's along with their families.

It seems like we swallow a camel and strain at a gnat.

Hear hear! Couldn't have put it better myself.

Crazy that our allies of decades are treated with suspicion and treated like enemies, while self confessed haters of our country, system, morals and religious majority are welcomed with open arms. I'm sick of it.

An (ex) American girlfriend of mine spent two hours being grilled by immigration officials at BHX while coming over for a stopover. A farce.

I'd rather Americans were flooding over than Iraqis and Syrians who have no intention to integrate.

Now my view on this, yes shocking, atrocities have been going on all around the world for years, a lifetime and more, 30 year war and all. Facebook... modern media, had it not been for the mobile phone and modern technology we would all be none the wiser. As a ex serving marine i have seen shocking images from around the world first hand, none were ever broadcast as at that point in time technology was not available, no one will ever see them. Shame it's taken the exploitation of this little boy's life to shame a reaction .

Not strictly true - I remember seeing distressing images before we ever had the internet. Mostly via library books & photo library images, and I've also seen a number of shocking photos taken by friends in the forces.

The internet is just a faster and wider method of communicating.

It's not just one little boy. Sadly.

cheers, steve

Agree, i was not argumenting a case, just very few or less folk seem to bother with reading documents events in this day and age. Not even condoning current media preferences, just stating it's not the first or the last , amazing how quickly those images have evoked a positive reaction. You could even say in oldboy terms ' The **** has hit the fan'
