Waterproof jacket

I often don't bother with a waterproof anymore. I usually just take two or three t-shirts and change them at break times. Your skin is waterproof!

We use harkie smocks and there hi viz and conform with hi ways. There can be a bit sweaty at times. They keep most of the water out tho.

My stihl jacket got a test the other day in some heavy rain and well for £60 I'd have been better not wearing it and running.

I remember watching a program called tomorrow's world. They had this magical material called goretex that repelled water but allowed sweat out! Surely someone can make a jacket out of it, it's hardly rocket science, or is it!

In practice Goretex ends up leaking like a sieve.

Goretex only works in a dry atmosphere.

Your body creates heat on the inside, high air pressure, and this easily pushes moisture out into the low pressure dry atmosphere outside.

 

Al Gore designed the fabric for high altitude mountaineering.

 

Here in Britain, the atmosphere is similar inside the jacket to outside. Therefore, a breathable membrane cannot work.

It's the same reason that fishermen don't wear breathable wet gear.

20000mm waterproof and pit zips to help 'breathability'.

Under a oner as well.

All my other Rab stuff has been really good.

Today was lashing down in Coventry. Wore an endura base layer and tShirt. It got wet but I stayed warm all day, until I finished. Then changed to a dry tShirt. Enjoyed the staying warm part, didn't enjoy the slippery Lombardy poles
