negative rigging of smallish timber

Those tape slings are NOT suitable for neg rigging! I've bust one resulting in a very near miss and quite a bit of damage!

Even a cut off of old climbing line would be a better means of attachment.

I'm using 11mm Climb line currently, but tonight I'm splicing some 13mm tenex up for my small rigging pulley.

what tonnage slings are we talking here?, how do they break, the stiching ?

is this to do with the shock load rather than actual weight?

just curios so i dont bust one myself!

thanks carl

It is both the shock load and the weight - a 40kg section of timber will impose a lesser maximum shock load than a 60kg section of timber , I think the opinions thing to remember is that the potential for shock loading should be avoided where ever possible , hence why the term

-snatching timber is seen as not good practice and was replaced with the technique known as dynamic loading

Maybe I've got this wrong but it seems to me you are worried about busting your swing cheek pulley.

I wouldnt neg rig from this ,just take smaller bits and maybe just use steel krab and sling to rig from,if you dont have any other kit. Keep it light you will be fine:001_smile:

How you rig the sling will make a difference, snug, tidy setups minimise some issues but tapes "larksfooted" on to timber can be a weak point
