Resin - cleaning nightmare

Evening all.

Recently returned to felling (using a husky 560xpg), currently in Sitka & Norway and my saw is absolutely caked in black sticky resin, I'm always diligent with my maintenance but find the removal of the resin a time consuming and irritating process.

Does anyone have any shortcuts etc to making the task easier/quicker.

I have a 2.5 litre can of acetone for this and other similar jobs. Available from boat-building suppliers.

Just go careful with this stuff!

Why not just leave it on? Pretty convinced that it was resin that was holding my last saw together 😳

I found this answer on an American milling forum. Couldn't believe it at first, but gave it a try and it really works.

Take a good dollop of mayonnaise , the cheaper the better and defo not garlic flavoured, -as much as you would normally use if it were swarfega. Rub in well for a minute , then use a amall amount of fairy liquid to clean this off and all the resin is gone too.

I now carry both as part of my ppe kit all the time.

By far the best ( and probably most expensive ) cleaner for bar and plastic parts I've used is Stihl Special Cleaner. £7-£8 for 500ml but it's safe and it really works. If your not cutting spruce etc all the time it's probably worth it.

Bit like using butter, (not marg) to remove tar from paintwork/vehicles.
