If you use a resistor it Is a Fire source...... Get a rdx replacement relay off eBay the can be attenuated to give proper flash frequency, about 30 quid, if like me you have 4 or 5 trailers it is cheaper plus they still work with incandescent bulbs!

I've just ordered one! Thanks for that info:)

One of the problems with ballast resistors is they imitate a load, your putting on a 1 watt load using leds to save power, then defeating that objective by putting in a resistor load back up to 20w to fool the relay.

Sandworks has got it with the rdx relay.

heres the link that explains

I would go for the resistors because of the amount of different vehicles our trailers end up on. The relay is all well and good if thats the only tow barge.

The resistors only go on the two indicators so the heat thing is not really that big an issue and they fit in the junction box under the trailer.

I want leds on because they are more focussed and you can leave your lights or hazards on without flattening or worrying about flattening your battery. I can leave my beacons on all day without worry.

...and also more and more new trailers and vehicles are now using leds as standard

I am just changing my trailer to all LED's.

The existing bypass relay works them fine but as they have less load the warning buzzer does not work which is now law to have.

I dont want the resistors (heat, power, cable size & later when the joints start to corrode the resistor will let the other bulbs flash due to a bad earth) so I am planning on changing the bypass replay for one that can do both LED & normal bulbs.

So far only found one for a sensible price eBay link

Just waiting for the seller to confirm that it will actually do what it says.
