Slightly off but why not go petrol, if you want a V8 ranger rover.

Car will be less as people don't seem to want to petrol models, fuel cost works out about the same and they sound awesome! Just don't get LPG, it will be a world of trouble.

Land Rover Range Rover 4.2 V8 Auto Supercharged Vogue SE 66k miles FSH | eBay

Also keep some budget in the bank for issues. The auto boxes go at 100-120k, electric handbrake etc etc

Do you have any figures to support this??

I know petrol is now cheaper than diesel (unlike in the past) but don't petrols use far more fuel??

There will always be a difference.

I have friends with the 3.6 and 4.4tdv8 and when they are being honest they only do 18-20mpg and the 4.4v8 petrol or supercharged are at around 12-15mpg. Unless you do loads of miles it would not be a worry. I have seen 18mpg in a 4.4v8petrol but i have a very light right foot!

The older 2.7td discos were good (mine would do over 30mpg) and 3.0 range rovers were 25ish, but nothing like as nice as the newer diesel engines.

But mpg aside, the v8 petrols drive lurrrvely and sound fantastic.

This diesel vs petrol thing is not rocket science. Modern diesels running under full throttle use roughly the same air fuel ratio as a petrol at around 14.1 , the biggest difference is at idle or low revs when the petrol is still running roughly 14.1 air fuel ratio but the diesel can be as low as 150.1 . A diesel can be in stop start traffic for hours and use virtually no fuel whereas the petrol will drink gallons of the stuff. This is why folk with a light foot that dont rev the granny out of an engine can get these mpg figures. GM v8 6.2 diesel at idle has a fuel consumption of a third of a gallon an hour, see how long a third of a gallon will last in a v8 petrol at idle.:)
