That's the equivalent of £250 here.

Your rate sounds like what freelance climbers should be aiming for over here. I think the problem is that the climbing industry is saturated, and more and more newly qualified "climbers" get churned out, which drives the price down.

That is a ridiculous figure.. £250 a day 220 work days a year would be £55K a year.

A decent climber has training that can be obtained over several weeks, a few years experience and a couple of grand of equipment..

And the cost of training, kit, ppe, upkeep of aforementioned equipment, sick pay, holiday pay, tax, national insurance?

I'd say in your hand you'd end up with 35k tops. That's IF you work 5 days a week all year.

If the climbers overseas are making that why should we not strive for it over here?

If the industry as a whole weren't so undervalued it would be a fair figure.

I don't know many subbies that work five days a week.

How much should a 'good' subby be earning? I'm not on about an average bloke, I'm on about a bloke that you know you can give your instruction too and leave him knowing that the job will be done to a standard as good if not better than your own.

220 days includes holiday. Equipment and training £1000 per year, everyone pays tax. A freelance tree climber is never going to earn the same as a barrister, judge or dentist. You are overvaluing the industry, it's not rocket science... It takes little training and little equipment..
