Root ID anyone?

Recommended Posts

Not something we get involved in really, usually we can ID the bit of tree above ground!

Here is physical lifting of pavers caused by roots from one of two trees. The culprits are Lombardy and common Betula.

Just trying to make sure we're accusing the right tree without excavating the property.

Anyone know for sure?

I'd say Birch too, those bands (which I think nare called lenticel bands) are quite characteristic of some species including birch but I wouldn't asssociate them with Poplar. Colour is'nt a ideal clue, but again I'd go with Birch.

If' as David says, therre's no Cherry currently or recently nearby. Because they do look cherry-like.

Cheers for the feedback, seems the overall swaying is towards birch then.

The original accusation was it being birch but the direction the roots are pointing in, it didn't seem immediately possible and they're pointing towards the poplar.

In an ideal world it would be best to expose the roots and trace back but there's minefield of politics due the the neighbourly dispute it's caused.
