I’m looking to find a program that I can create a fillable form template that can be used with check boxes, drop down lists for risk assessments that can then be filled out on an iPad. there’s a few about, but looking for someone who has had good success with one. Cheers

I was asked a question by a client today who has a 3m high leylandii hedge near a neighbours house/garage which is potentially causing minor subsidence on one corner. The soil is on shrinkable clay, so there could be a case. The hedge has been well kept and the client was keen to keep the hedge but mitigate the issue. While talking over a few options, the question asked was if they could water the ground regularly over the dryer seasons to reduce the effects of subsidence. I’m sure in order to do this, you would need a monitored and sophisticated system to ensure the soil moisture content was brought back to field capacity and maintained there, which I would image is near enough impossible. But if it could be done, would it actually work?

It’s 20ft, maybe 22, but it’s in a barn with limited space for lifting inside and turning when out in the yard. Needs to move from one site to another. We put it in with a telehandler using poles, but was thinking if it was on wheels it would save a lot of faff. The place it’s going into has just been built and I don’t want to make a mess of the new screed floor.

Anyone got a set of shipping container wheels to sell or hire? Or know of somewhere that does? There’s a few options online, but will only be needed to move a container from one site to another, so if I can avoid buying new would be ideal. Ive used the telegraph pole method but looking for something more manoeuvrable in a tight spot, with minimal ground damage due to a new screed floor.

Don’t think it’s a Rhody, I didn’t see any buds. I did think Cockspur, or some sort of Sorbus, but being evergreen I couldn’t find anything similar

Hi, Im looking for a green waste site near Walthamstow London, that can take cuttings and brash. I have checked the chip site directory but only one site has it and Im not sure its suitable. Ive been asked to do some work for a mate there, and would like not to have to take the chipper down as its a bit of a trip and not sure on parking/storage. Anyone able to help? might be a van load. cheers

Hi. Has anyone ever added to their ally planking sides successfully? I built a tipper back a while ago using ally planks from service metals. Really it could have done with being another plank higher. I’m wandering if it’s possible to dismantle/unclip the top plank without damaging it to install another below? Or if there is another way to do it? Maybe slide out? Cheers

It depends on what “plant” insurance you need. If you are looking to insure the kit for the current value or new for old. New for old I know trust are probably one of the only insurers that are still doing this. That’s coming from a Phone call with an arborisk rep on enquiry. Premiums have risen quite substantially from my experience, but trying to split kit and liability with different brokers may be difficult as I feel they rely on one or the other to make their money and sell it as a package.

Checkatrade seems to give you the small end clients, a lot of faf for potentially not much but if you factor in the faf time and price it in to the job, generally as a legit company you get the job. It totally depends on your area and clientele and how you want to sell yourself but it doesn’t take much to get back your fees if you win a job or two. If you are in the domestic field it should pay off albeit maybe more painstaking. Jobs a job if you are looking to fill your books. You get the odd surprise that may end up in long term work -
Anyone have a small chipper for hire in Cheltenham, needs to be sub 3ft width to get down narrow alleyway. Something with feed rollers and capable of coping with conny brash, probably wet due to the weather, and 4” diameter brush. Would be looking for 2 days hire, can pick up if it’s easier. Thanks

Nice one, I will look them up. I’d rather have someone do them with the right setup as I don’t have a drill press and Ive heard a lot about the dust that comes off them and needing to have good ventilation/mask etc. Also, I’ve got the multi tip green teeth, wouldn’t know the best way to sharpen them.
