One of the only fail to complete stump grinding jobs for me. Don't think that I can be totally to blame though.

Builders wanted a massive wisteria stump and lateral roots out so that they can access the 3 courses of bricks below the damp proof. Of course after that erected the scaffolding which could not be moved. What you can't see in the photos are the horizontal scaffold bars at waist height.

That's where a little Alpine Magnum comes into its own! You can run it parallel to the wall and come in at an angle and literally take everything out up to the brickwork! I only use it for a very small percentage of jobs or for finishing off jobs like that, but sometimes it is worth its weight in Gold! Actually though, they cost about £7000 new so they really are almost worth their weight in Gold!

The other alternative there would be a petrol disc cutter with a Terrasaur carbide blade to trim the last bits out. Pink scaffolding definitely doesn't help though!

I notice the drive to the head is via a cardon/pto shaft.

Are there any self driven machines with the same?

Avoiding either belts or hydro heads?

Vermeer sc50 sc60 machines are some that we have come across.

I've done a wizzy and a bay recently up against a wall using sharp mattocks. Knife through butter but digging a hole large enough for a decent swing of the mattock was the real ballache.
