What a ridiculously simple and good idea.

 

 

It's also great for those times where you need slack in your rigging line to make a cut without the rope being in the way. If you tie it in the right direction the spike will keep the slack in, and once cut, the weight of the lowered section will undo the knot.

Have never had a rigging crab cross load, any big bits and a half hitch goes in front, there is a time and place for slings but tip roping the back bone looks a heavy faff to pull through and around a canopy, a rigging line with a crab can be bad enough... It looks useful for balance rigging though ,but a rigging plate or figure of 8 are probably easier and lighter imo.
