Have you upped your day rate since you last mentioned it?

I was thinking that.

If someone climbs for £100 per day, ground working for £80 don't sound bad.

If you are still finding your feet and getting up to speed, i would say £80 s/e a day is fair. After 4 months or so when you are quicker i would have thought you could up that to about £100. Or go on piece rate mate.

Another hing to consider is all the replies are based on you actually being good, I've been trying out a few guys recently and I'd begrudge paying them £50 never mind £80 and all claiming to be experienced groundies.

Sadly, very, very true.

It is hard, and sad as Dave said. Because you only have their word to go on to start with, and few on here ( as shown in a recent thread about inadequate labour) advocate docking wages/cutting rates due to poor performance. And the trouble is they always think they know best and don't take on board any advice/criticism, so the only way is to keep going until you find decent guys....Then there's trying to explain why you want to 'pay them less' on PAYE.....

It's not hard! Set them on as subbies for the day, if they measure-up keep hold of them, if they don't move on to the next. Believe me there are good lads out there...... You need to pay them well mind. Those of us who choose to sub ain't doing it for the fun of it! We normally get brought in when companies are busy or can't do the job without us. Swings both ways!
