Khriss....theres a different between slagging someone down and trying to help a relatively new climber.

I'm sure you've gathered you're to get a lifeline, time to time i don't use one when chunking down that last few feet, but that's not to say it's good practice.

Its all about discussing best practice nothing truly negative meant by it.

I thought the pics were great, as for the pegs I didn't really see a problem with gary's approach, looked like he was cutting the branches before the bulbous branch collar which makes it easier for ground crew and climber (please tell me this was intentional:))

Thats how I saw it, not really "pegs", IMO.

 

When you spend half your life making pruning cuts its hard to break the habit.

I dont think anything really negative has been said, I like the pics, look like good jobs done well by a decent bloke, Nothing wrong with constructive critisism (sorry for the spelling :001_tongue:)

Whilst working in Oz couple of years ago, I fully dislocated my right knee cap whilst in spikes, with a 066 hanging of my belt too, a nasty pop, followed by a warm crumbly sensation in the knee, very quickly followed by intense pain, and me screaming like a baby!! the whinging pomm banter stopped briefly too! very rare!!

 

i wasnt too high up, about 25ft, just dismantled a big old Jarra, and was just chogging down the barrell, but without my life line just below my flip line, i would have been in a world of trouble decending!

 

takes no time to whack a running bowline into your life line, too easy!

 

knee recovered after 3 months out of the trees and some crazy intense physio, luckily no further dislocations, although i still have to wear a brace everyday now, just to strenghten.

i either use my rope guide as a false crotch to decend on in an emergency or choke my climbing line round the stem and instal a fig8 below it

I always use a lifeline and have never had to do an emergency descent.

 

I have had to come down from a chunky, smooth stem to sort ground stuff out before launching barrels, and basically had to spike down and back up again. The ropeguide wasn't long enough to set a false crotch.

 

Made me wonder what's the quickest way of getting down in this situation?

set your clibing system tight round the stem, install your fig 8 below your hitch and pully and descend on a single line
