Hi there, I'm new to the forum, I am looking into producing my own logs for personal use. Me and my brother are trying to reduce the cost of heating our homes by buying in the timber and processing it ourselves, we would be be looking at buying a full lorry load ( 25t ish of hardwood) once a year. We are in the north notts area, if anyone can supply us please let me know, cheers.

If you don't get any replies on here, your local Euroforest should be able to help you.

If they only have chainsaw and axes they would be better off having an arb company drop off logs, shame they're not in SE Surrey as I still have a large heap of odd sizes.

My only advice would be to do a chainsaw course of some description first; it doesn't have to be an NPTC one. My local college offers a domestic users course (no test at the end) which covers all of the basics.

Cheers,

Dan

Thanks for the input everyone. Not scared of the hard work, just trying to save a bit of cash, seems harder and harder to get logs at a reasonable price around our way. During the winter I could get through a bulk bag a week.

We have customers that use a lot and we look after them by dropping a off cuts and wood that's got slight rot in or mould. I see where your coming from a bulk bag a week is a lot.

If your stuck I can put you in touch with some one the wood will be cheep but the transport expensive

If you're using that much you should be able to barter with a local firewood supplier. I've two who supply a great product. On in tickhill, the other near bilsthorpe. If you ordered in bulk I see no reason why the price can't come down 15-20% splitting 25t in your spare time would be a ball ach.

You would also need a fair amount of storage space to stack the 25 ton of roundwood and then the processed product. And have you get handling equipment to safely get 3m logs off the stack?
