I have lots of JR`s and they are useless at vermin control compared to my mates old Tom cat.

Same with me I've got a jack Russel and my sister's cat puts her to shame even bought a huge rat back for her last week.

 

cats are best around farms! They go and do their own thing, i wouldnt want a dog roaming about, it will end up trapped or under the wheels of something.

my collie (who wouldn't harm a fly)once came into the room with a bit of a limp followed a short while after by my nephew (3 years old), collie turned around and barred his teeth at him and growled (in quite an aggressive manner), it wasn't until we realised that the nephew had been chasing hi round the house trying to stand on collies toes that we realised why.

I do get what difflock is saying, but really the situation should be extinguished/child taught a lesson before the dog gets to the growling stage.... lesson learnt.

cats are pricks the only place they belong is on a farm we have 2 lakeland patterdale crosses they are pretty good with kids and are pretty good with rabbits and mice etc

I think it depends on what context, every dog, like most of us will have a breaking point and if pushed persistenly will snap, I wouldn't have a dog put to sleep for that reason, rehomed possibly...

One of our Spaniels bit Mrs Egg a few years ago..... It was a moment of panic (me and a mate felling a tree) over next doors garage....It nearly went wrong! I shouted "Help, it's going over"...... Mrs Egg ran to help, so did the dog!, one less pocket on her jeans....

A cat or two isn't possible as my partner is very allergic to them.

we have 3 feral cats, that we got from a "feral cat rescue" they never come near the house in fact we don't see them that often, but the vermin population is being successfully controlled. I did laugh at your comment about staffords, never once would I ever put them in a category of vermin control, you would be deluded to think anything other than they can hold a sofa down well and that's about it . I should know as I have 2.
