What a great picture! What sort of owl can not only take a rabbit but lift it away with out a trace?

 

An eagle owl possibly ....

1. Not rabbit tracks, more like small human shuffling.

2. A birds wings hitting snow would make a much more smudged impression.

3. No signs of struggle or usual carnage

 

Conclusion :- somebody fooling around with a stick
