The gob needed to be more "open", IMO.

On a fell like that, I would not want the gob to close until it was completely over.

Ahhh, but if that were Tommer falling the stem with his new helmet on that "mile" would have been classed as a "near miss" and a full investigation would have automatically ensued

:sneaky2:Well spotted. Like you say, there is a swing towards the fence as the tension goes from the pull-line. and a very close finish...

Judged to be lucky..:001_tongue:

even with tension it probably would have held and done the same......just how the fibres run

To be honest I would say luck.

The Gob was certainly deep enough, you could have cut the bottom of the gob angled and there would have been more space for the Tree to hinge before the gob closed.

Also I always cut the weight side first, then run the saw around to the Tension side. This way you can leave a thicker hinger on the Tension side.

All in all though, I know I have pulled things off that were total luck.I admire you for posting.

I think in this profession we've probably all had moments that when the tree, branch or log has hit the deck and we've had a minute to think about whats just happened and thought "god im glad that went right"....generally dont do it twice though? haha
