We mostly heat our house here using firewood, in a large stove with back boiler.

With the amount we use, If we had to pay for the firewood at even the cheaper rates that get mentioned here, we would probably be using oil and the stove would only be for room heat and decorative purposes, and using more coal than logs.

Luckily, we have our own forest so our firewood is 'free'.

The problem is that the firewood merchant probably needs £100 a cube to make a reasonable profit, but I wonder how many people on this site would actually use firewood if they had to pay this?

so in otherwords things wont improve until government regulates the business, as demonstrated by the responses here self regulation won't happen so it will have to be imposed.

You're at it again Logs.

I really think you would be happier in a country such as China, where all the prices are 'imposed'.

This is simple supply and demand. Basic economics. Some customers want to buy shitty wet willow for £50 a bag. Others would rather come to you for decent stuff at double the price. You have your place in the market, stop worrying about others. The market goes up, the market goes down. Either adapt or find something more profitable to do.

And for Pete's sake, stop threatening to get your big brother involved. :001_rolleyes:

My dads bigger than yours anyway.

I'm at nothing simply having a discussion, your the one jumping in with both feet if someone says something you don't like which is pretty much everything, maybe you should try engaging your brain instead of your mouth because they clearly can't work together. I'm guessing your IQ is single digits as your incapable of understanding that my post is a desire that we fix issues so big brother isn't involved, you have a chip on your shoulder which is your problem not mine.

If we had no rules where would we be? France! If we had too many rules where would we be? Germany!

Are you sure that you want regulation imposed? I for one definitely don't want some Tory tw@t in Westminster telling me how to go about my business.

Got to step in and correct you there, speaking as someone who lives in France.

There are plenty of rules, possibly more than the UK in some instances, its more a case of the French are sufficiently sensible enough to ignore a lot of them... unlike the populations of other countries.

try reading my post above where I said I don't want government involved which I believe is inevitable but to what degree depends on how many rogue traders are left out there trading quite happily because others won't do anything, so imo they should be weeded out.

I want to point out that the topic was end of firewood so I assumed it was intended for some ideas to change that course not an argument because an idea is put forward. twist it turn it and come up with an alternative that might be of use to someone instead of just wanting to attack.

I know forestry boomed under thatcher, it's booming now under coalition the tories being in westminster not necessarily bad for the forest industry.
