Hi,

Ive just received permission to have a tree cut down that has a TPO on it. Do you have to use the person/company that filled out the application form? Another firm has wrote to me saying they can do the work cheaper and I think this firm looks more professional.

Thanks

what makes them look more pro,the other firm may invoice you for there time /??

Presumably you have accepted the quote from the firm that have made the application, this would suggest at least a verbal contract.

Do you not think its pretty low of another firm to be touting for work another company has begun and for you to be considering it.

If you were not happy with their price why let them go ahead and apply??

You can get anyone you want to do the job, but if you engaged this company to apply for the TPO you are morally obligated to have them do the work IMO. If you don't agree with that, then at the least you should offer to pay them for their time submitting the application for you. Anything less quite frankly would be out of order.

I think you should use the people who did the application or at least pay than

M for their time and expenses !

I don't do tree work but I would be very annoyed if someone did that to me!!

Thanks for your reply.

The firm who filled it in for me never mentioned a charge for doing so, do you think they would charge me? Is it a lengthly process?

Well lets see, you have had the benefit of their professional advice and they have assessed the tree and made a successful application that may well have been beyond your ability.

You owe them morally if nothing else.

There is nothing stronger than your conscience preventing you from using another contractor and there is nothing stopping the original applicant from using a civil action to recover costs if they so choose, that could become a coin toss in the hands of the county court.

They said they would quote me once the permission had come through so we knew what could be done to the tree as was unsure would be allowed to have any work done. They said they don't charge for quotes and was told the form would take about 10minutes to fill in, that they could do it for me or I could complete it myself?

Is it not best practice to get a few quotes and how do I get correct quotes if I don't know what I can have done to the tree until permission has come through?
