+1 for trying new knots out on your lanyard before mainline. I learnt on blakes hitch and so tried a VT and micro pulley on my lanyard for a while, and then a Distel. Realised I preferred the distel, it felt more reliable than the VT for me.

Then I added a micro pulley under the blakes on main line and that was good for a while, but got annoying as it tends to tighten up too much and needs adjusting. So then I put a Distel on the main line and it's great. Next is to swop the micro pulley for a HC. Once the HC is familiar easy to move to SRT by adding RopeWrench....

Then I guess go mechanical!

Hitchclimber next, if you just go straight into it and stick with it it won't take long at all, the lads I have worked with were on hitchclimbers as soon as they could afford one while they were training, then about 2 years in all on spiderjacks/zigzags, don't wait around too long haha

I did 18 years on a prussic, tried the spider jack, it was ok, but not great, got a Zigzag and love it!!!!!! been using one for a few years now, its great, IMO.

18 years on a prussik... the new generation of climbers who start on SRT and hitch climbers should be able to climb into there 80s... ;)

Aye they should be , climbing gets better and better through each generation of climbers.

I look forward to seeing what's happening in 10 years time.

All interesting, either climbers will last longer or will be climbing and cutting more trees per day and still be in the same position by the time they are 35 :)

Innovation is great and should be embraced, what is the climbing industry missing that can be invented in the next 10 years?
