What does a spark screen do?

As i understand it, they're a requirement in climates with very low humidity where forest fires are common. In the UK, the litter in the woods very rarely becomes so dry that they'd be necessary.

Stops any spark from the exhaust causing forest fires in countries where they are prone to happen, thus we don't really need them in the UK.

It bungs and restricts your saw up and it Gets worse the longer it's left on is what it does... Bin,destroy!!

Got a 346 XP and MS 460 So I just take the screens out?

So is every saw sold in the UK likely to have one? I'm assuming it's a mesh screen in the exhaust muffler? How easy are they to remove and is the increase in power worth the faffing around?

Not all saws have them - the later 346XPs yes, not seen one on a MS460!

It will give you a bit more power, a lot more if it is blocked. For LOTS of power, porting and a muffler mod is the only real option but have to consider H&S of employees if they are using your kit!

The 357 you re built spud is running great, just like a new saw. I put a new clutch bearing and drum on my 261 and it's no better still very wobbly and cuts out when chain brake is applied so it must be a crank issue! Always thought that saw was crap!
