I have both a 550xp and a 560xp , I find the 550 is great for teaching and leaving the apprentice use but in all honesty I find it sluggish , underpowered and slow for using as your main grind saw . I would highly rate both saws but for day to day work I would be going with the 560

Thanks Eddy . Only trouble is I've been officially told that it will be the last saw I get for quite some time And when she said it she done one of those stern looks!!

Do you have a backup saw? Because you need one, just in case it breaks!

Then a backup backup saw, you know, just in case!

Then a big saw, for big trees, and a backup saw for that!

And small saws, for using round the chipper, zipping up small stuff, etc! And a backup :)

Topper, and backup, because if you don't have a saw, you can't earn money!

I currently have about 10-ish saws (daren't put the actual number up), each one is really important and has its specific use! ;) use that as your reason, or just buy them, stick em in the shed so she doesn't notice

Mate of mine is a Husky man thru and thru. Back of his pickup recently; had 2x 550, 2x 560, 365, 372, 395 in it. "Why all the saws?" I asked. "Backups" came the reply! Seemed normal to him :confused1:

I've had my Echo 600, lives in the harvester cab and nowt else; never needed a backup saw; would say the same for the dol 5105 or Stihl 036.

You say you want to "cut up logs", is this commercially or just for your burner? If commercially then a new saw and the 560/550/261 would seem about right, if it is just for your own use, perhaps a decent 346/357/260 may be a better and cheaper option.

yes def the pokiest 43cc saw i've used. light too. with a sharp chain i'd believe it was a 50cc!

Absolutely, I'm so in love with Makita for good robust saws at semi-sensible money I'm sorely tempted to buy a DCS9010 just because I think it's built like a tank and I won't be using it enough for the weight to ever bother me.

Same here, i have a little ea4300 and love it to bits. Im also thinking of getting a 9010 monster, just because they are so cheap in comparison.
