Can anyone recommend an app that will report approximate position every so often in the way google latitude used to without using large amounts of data?

I'm in the same position work alone and off the beaten track, touch wood nothing has gone wrong but if it did I would get my location of my GPS

Our local TO has some system that calls or texts his mobile ever half hour, he has to reply to it within a few minuets, if he doesn't reply the red flag goes up and a search party is assembled.

I could be wrong about the amount of time, but it needs to be pretty regular or it would be pointless.

There's one that works in conjunction with your phone, SPOT Response or something like that. Thing is, in order to report you will need a mobile signal, which is not always found off the beaten track.

Find Friends or Find my iPhone would do it if both parties agreed to it and you had an iPhone.

they are free but do depend on having a signal.
