At what point can we say they're both bloody brilliant?

A year or so with good behaviour and no more recalls or common issues. Stihl dealers by then will be carrying a few spares on the shelf and there may be a few aftermarket spares around.

With some of the dross stihl have been throwing out over the last few years I would go 395, no auto tune and tested for years, don't forget this is stihls second attempt on the 661 in less than a year!

On paper the 661 is far better guys , but I think it's got to be the 395 xp as it's still old school in tech terms and I have a husky Tatoo on my leg so I have to stay orange

You could not expose one leg to the sun for a year and that way you could have a white leg too. Problem solved. But yes, an all singing all dancing saw sounds good. But how long will it run for before it goes all honey shaped?

I think Stihl might have an uphill battle trying to shift 661s now. People are still asking after the reliability of H' 550XPs & 560XPs. Even though the later one seem to be sorted.

As a manufacturer, if you shoot yourself in the foot. Don't be surprised to walk with a limp afterwards. Ratner admitted his company sold crap to the public and buyers went elsewhere. Both H' and S' have had similar recently. But they didn't openly admit the true nature of said models.

One of the chaps I work for has the new 441, if that's anything to go by then the new 661 should be awesome!

395xp is a little too dated for me. But the 390xp is has been just right.

My love/hate with those flippy caps in sub zero temps seals the 661's fate for me.
