blunting chains!! now thats well out of order !!!

seem harsh to dock that much money but then a pisser to lose that much through dopeyness,

Even if it legal, its certainly not very fair :thumbdown:

 

Suck it up and move on, you would probable make your money back faster by breading good will and a sense of team work by covering the cost cost, rather than creating resentment and a "them and us" mentality.

Only read the first page when I posted the above.

 

Having read about all the other stuff he's recked it strikes me that you need to setup some safer systems of work or let this guy go, making him pay is not the answer, IMO.

I look back at my early working years & there's one boss that really stands out, he was by far the best bloke I worked for very fair. He would say what he wanted done in that day when it was done we either went home or worked on and got payed extra. He helped me buy my first car . But if we broke something

We payed for it. Fitting pre stressed concrete panels into an building we had erected I had to cut panel end did so & left the cut off saw on the floor, ran it over payed £100 a week for 5 weeks. Then on another occasion i broke a timber eves beam reversing back in tele it was 47 quid spare on site but he still took it out my wages .

Been fair to people does not cause bad feeling it just teaches respectIMO

I had a similar thing happen a few years ago, I made him pay for theorem he broke as it was due to stupidness rather than an accident. From what you say about the lad he is a bit careless with the gear, I would get rid and pay for a decent lad, that's what I do now and it makes a huge difference.

time to review systems of work,climbing gear should go straight into bag or place in vehicle,blowers rakes saws should not be left where they can be ran over in the first place.

your site,your gear,your rules. also not fair to name

If I docked wages for all the stuff my guys have broken recently they'd be working for free till april LOL.

 

Seriously though, it is illegal to dock wages like that, fair play if the guy wants to pay, but as his employer you have to swallow whatever damage he causes.

But your climbing gear is ultimately your personal life saving equipment that should be ultimately your responsibility to safe guard ,leaving it on the floor is asking for trouble regardless of his history for breaking gear etc .
