How is chip from tree work not sustainable???

 

I dont make the rules just costs me a fortune buying timber from sustainable forests to comply with the rules for biomass power stations.

Whether tree surgeon woodchip is genuinely sustainable or not is irrelevant.

 

What is important is whether full chain of custody, woodland plan etc etc etc can be demonstrated and appropriate paperwork issued.

Well you can't of course but rules are rules.

 

I'm not familiar with rules for power station chip but demonstrating sustainability usually means FSC certification... And that requires all sorts of crap. So legislation created to prevent illegal logging of rainforest severely hampers UK forest management and ties it up in layers of bureaucracy.

Anyone else been told this this week.

 

Called me yesterday to say they would cover the 5 loads booked in next week at £3 ton but after that they payin £0

 

I should be charging gate fee which I'm not and have no intention of Startin to do .

 

 

Forgive my ignorance on this subject.

But, who sets the price on wood chip? We generate 1 or 2 mog loads a day plus a tranny or 2 of logs.

We tip free at a local chip site where they run tracked 360s and a large trommel to sieve the chip into artic trailers... It must cost them a fair bit to keep that operation going compared to what they get for their chip.

We looked into getting a biomass boiler for one of our bigger houses

thinking we'd save loads but it wasn't practical.... We were also told that wood fuel pellets (presumably pressed from virgin wood chip) retailed around £240+vat per ton

Someone's obviously making money..... But who ??!
