Towing any trailer and taco if its for work

Just found this out so for those of you that didn't know Id thought id just post it up. So turns out if you tow a trailer.. That includes chippers and your vehicle exceeds 3.5t with the trailer then for work you have to run a taco in your vehicle, apparently that inudes pick ups 😕

I posted a link 2 or 3 days ago about the new rules that are coming in next year.

 

Main points are the 50km exemption is going up to 100km & the drivers hours rules to be applied will be the UK ones not the EU ones.

I wondered about this the other day. I can see this applying to most landscapers and arborists. Got onto the subject at a composting site about this council bloke who tried to book someone on waste as it happens. Then delved into the use of his trailer. If your vehicle was registered before around the year of 2003 ( it could be an earlier or later year i have forgot, i will look it up) then a analog tacho is acceptable, no need for the new digi tacho, card and ticket for it. Though I can see the plus side of the new digital sets.

With the 100k radius coming in, it'll exempt most arbs

Does the age exemption for older lorries still apply? I can't remember the details but it's something along the lines of 12 years old or older a tacho is not required. I'll have to check this evening.

Remember if towing an empty trailer tachometer rules still apply as you are able to tow over 3.5 tonnes.

I thought this had been cleared up between ifor and vosa, just because a trailer has a plated weight it doesn't mean you will use it.
