whats the point of chipping it?

what a waste of fire wood or habitat logs...

The clue is in the title, selective harvesting

Its not all about firewood and habitat.

Removing dead and dying trees in a productive forest is important.

Forestry is ultimately about profit. It is agriculture but with trees. Commercial forestry aimed purely at profit will not care about habitat etc as has been demonstrated by plantation monocultures

That's cool, it's there to do a job better and more efficiently than current machines on the market.

Maybe just maybe just before they invest millions on a new piece of kit they do some research , just maybe The likes of John Deere have given it a bit of thought. No other trees were harmed, no debris was left that me turn into tinder in the summer months, jobs a goodun:biggrin:

It seems quite slow though. It's got a Forestry Mulcher to do the mulching but it's messing around with the tree when it should just be mulching it well that's how I'm interpreting it.

I suppose knocking the top out the tree and then mulching down the trunk like you often do with a mulcher isn't always going to be applicable for thinning.
