driven by anyone can be a weapon regardless of age, and if you can drive a 44ton hgv at 18 why not a tractor? lets face it there are plenty people who shouldn't be behind the wheel of a car! it's the person not the age

The driving standards required to obtain a LGV licence are some what harder than your average tractor requirements!!

Having driven them since the age of ten fixed them sold them and seen many on the road towing 10 ton plus with the wrong size dropping pin in the draw bar, trailer brakes not working or not even connected up!

Tractors with that much free play in the steering you can turn it half a turn before the wheels move!

Next time you see one coming the other way just think if that trac rod end which was only half an hour ago traveling down some rough track with 12" pot holes and now traveling 30 mph plus to adds you broke would the drive be able to stop before ploughing head on into you!!

With the half ton of weights sticking out in front of him and 8-10 of tractor behind plus the 10,15 or 20 ton on the back for a extra little push!!!

You can all look at them tractors tomorrow coming the other way a little different!!

The old drive would go for the ditch one way or the other

Would the younger drive ?

Or would he panic hit the brakes cause he was going as fast as he could already and squash you!!!

Under the changes, the maximum combination weight limit for tractors and trailers will increase from 24.39 tonnes to 31 tonnes and will set a new effective speed limit of 25mph (40km/h), up from 20mph - saving time and money. Tractors allowed to exceed 25mph will continue to be subject to tighter design and regulatory requirements.

If the above is true it may be VOSA that get to give the tractors the once over roadside. God help the farmers if they do.
