I see on this evenings news that two of the three last deep mines in the country are winding-down, with the third looking for funding. Good or bad thing?

its cheaper to ship it from aus than cut are own coal ???.but if we dont do our own coal, they can dictate the price

Coal is coal isn't it?? Gas is kind of maintance free. It all comes from a different country. Yes jobs will be lost but it's a dangerous game mining and are we aren't prepared to pay for british coal even when it's uneconomical a small minority are which have the cash but us folk who are pushed to breaking point with price rises aren't and its us folk who are the main buyers. Obviously using fossil fuels isn't in fashion at the moment. Unless they find an efficient way for mining coal our economy isn't ready for mining it hasn't been since the early 90's

I do not buy coal as I have an endless supply of wood but if I did I would buy British local coal. I try to sue port local business as much as possible yes price is a factor but it's not at the top of the list.

But isn't owning a coal mine like owning a forest

 

If you own a colliery the coal is still down there

It's worthless until it's extracted .......but so is a tree in the forest

 

But that doesn't mean the colliery is worthless
