Just completed this commission for my daughter's school which my wife findraised and gained a grant for through the school PTA.

I thought I had given a very good price which basically covered my time and costs but the head teacher instead of being grateful is being funny with my wife about the money going to me.

1 large redwood story chair.

30 quite hefty mushroom seats.

5 carved 8ft long benches.

Delivered and arranged on the field.

 

Ps I have got paid so not fishing for a what should I charge Just for my own conscience I'm wondering what some of you lot would have charged 'ball park' as her attitude has quite bothered me tonight after all the work iv put into it.

If it was for my kids' school I'd cap it at £750, if private I might double that.

That's just guessing though as I don't know how long it took you, how much materials and consumables cost you etc.

3 1/2 days

5 ltrs of decking oil

1 big chunk of redwood

9 x 8ft larch saw logs + some odd bigger but ends.

Sanding disks for grinder.

20 8" turbo coach screws.

10ltrs of aspen.

General saw usage costs etc

I agree with TTP above really ..... It is probably best to always have an up front agreement .... also it seems bloody mean of a head teacher , who almost certainly as a very good salary and very generous pension etc, etc ... do deny a poor wood cutter any recompense for his efforts !! Perhaps raise this in a subtle sarcastic way at the next PTA

I would say £750- £800 would have been fair without making to much profit but I don't really know what prices individual items would make. They seem good quality

No idea how much £ but the story chair and stools are amazing bet the kids will love sitting round em.

 

I'd say the £750 quoted above was cheap myself.

Sorry I don't know what price ... I have never been involved with PTA's or grants. I just wanted to say its a lovely tidy job you have done. Perhaps ask if around 5 days of heavily discounted private tuition for your kids would be preferable. Sorry if that's not helpful.

£700 for your time, £50 for materials and a profit if you choose. Also ask that your work is publicised through the school news letter or website as a form of free advertising.

 

I do the tree work for my daughters school and charge full rate but put the profit element back to the PTA or some other cause the school is chasing (the latest being printed t shirts for the inter school events)
