oregon chain oil

has anyone noticed that oregon super chain oil looks dirty. i have been using a different brand for a while and that was always clean,yesterday i bought a drum of oregon oil and my first reaction was its old engine oil .never used to be near black.and the sludge in the bottom of the drum made me wonder.are they using reclaimed oil in the manufacture?at £40 a drum i hope not .will be going back to gb oils chain oil from now on.dissapointed as always regarded oregon as a quality brand.jake

It's probably an additive separating out, like Lithium in grease.

Did notice the sludgy bit in the dregs of my last drum and never remembered it in the past. It had been a few years since last using the Oregon stuff but the thing I was more alarmed by was how thin it is now. It used to be really thick and gloopy

the gb oil comes in a white drum and there is never any sediment in the bottom if the drum.oregon is in a black drum and its impossible to tell whats in the bottom untill you pour it into a clear jug.not sure how good it is for poil pump a=nd bar .yes it does seem thinner almost like suto.

the drum of Oregon chain oil I've got is very dark, but also very think too.

 

have used other brands and always found Oregon to be the thickest of the lot.

The bio oil is very dark and has lumps in the dregs but is better than others, smell varies as well: last 2 we had smelled of neats foot oil and the new ones of linseed! Presume Oregon use whatever they can get cheapest

Try Rye oils good stuff and good price including delivery

i notice my recent drum was very thin as thin as hydraulic oil

Shouldn't be any separation, as long as the tacking agent has been heated up and mixed properly. It almost sounds like its got a bit of water contamination. I would send it back if you have any left.
