Cool. Its not like you are in my area so I have no worries, but times are hard for us all. Glad you took it ok.

I've always beleived that if you excell (not good at) you will be in demand and do well.

Shreks Wee Brother

Evening mate.

Saturday morning i went to a printing place thats in the unit next to where my Mrs works, The guys gonna do me 1000 flyers for a really good price, Im not sure what i think about flyering to be honest, I know it will be one way of advertising but i cant help but think its abit gypsyfied!! :scared1:

Ive got a few numbers of firms to call tomorrow, Mostly all the big powerline firms, I spoke to a guy at ProArb yesterday, He seemed pretty keen and asked for my CV. I got a good lead today, My sisters next door neighbour manages 3 sort of priory clinic type places and he said he'd like to get me in to maintain the grounds of all 3 places, Said theres lots of hedge work, Quite a few trees he wants lifting and abit of grass to mow, Im going looking at them on Wednesday so hopefully thats a goer, although i wouldnt know how to price mowing grass :confused1:

Gonna ring round a fair few private companys and see if anyone has the odd day or 2 a week/month.

A mate of mine who has his own firm said he'll give me 2 days a week at 60 a day splitting logs, Not the best like but ive slpit many a log in my time and while theres not much else on at the moment i may aswell take him up on the offer.

So all in all, Even though i have nothing concrete i have a few little bits and pieces i can follow up, So id say it hasnt been a bad weekend really, Im not the type to sit on my arse and wait for work to come to me, i really really want to make a go of going on my own, Im sure it will be slow going at first and if employment gets offerd ill really look hard at it but im sure ill survive.

Oh and Stevie.........If you ever need a hand for a week or so, Give me a shout, I could with a change of scenery pal!! :001_cool:

not much!!!!!!!!well done mate that is excellent, would you of thought this time last week you would of had such a change in life, would you of believed how much interest you have generated? i would reach round and give yourself a pat on the back. now get some signwriting on your car, your name and tree surgeon below it. the feeling is amazing when you see it when you leave the house in the morning, it gives you drive and pride. as for pricing. think of how much you want to earn this year. lets say 20k, get yourself a wee van or trailer. say another 2k, insurance, hopefully 500 quid, add up everything you have, ( what it cost you) plus fuel for the year. divide it by 2000(40hrs a week x50) then that gives you your hourly rate. everytime you buy a piece of kit, divide the cost by hrs and add it onto your rate. even if its a few pence, it all adds up.:001_smile:good on you:001_cool:

Sounds like you have the right attitude going on. If you're prepared to do what's needed in the short term i.e. splitting logs etc then you have a good chance.

Local papers I find are the best way to advertise for private work. Also I know you probably just want to do tree surgery but if you have a mower and a strimmer grass cutting at this time of year is a good one and you should be able to earn pretty good money from it (price by job/lawn and not by hour - there's incentive then for working hard).

When I started I put 2 ads in the local paper. One was a boxed ad with all the trimmings for tree surgery etc. The other was a small lineage ad that read something like 'local professional person available for mowing lawns. Good rates and reliable service'. Always got a good result. Then as time goes on you can drop the jobs you don't like.

Cheers Guys, Nice one Stevie ill do that calculation thing! Good help that, It didnt occur to me to do it that way!

Rob D, Thats the problem, I dont own a mower or a strimmer, Im gonna go and look at the jobs, See exactly how much mowing is involved, If its something and nothing ill hire one but if i have a chat with the guy and he wants me to keep going back keeping on top of the sites i may look at getting a cheap petrol mower and strimmer, Thanks mate

I agree with stevie on the business name,we did it,it's taken 4 years but it's worked for us.If you rely on word of mouth people will spread your name not a snazzy company name. They do up here anyway:001_cool:
