lots of seed and berries every two to three years is NORMAL, it is to stop parasites and predators populations meeting their outputs, starve the parasites for a year or two drop their populations then BLAM seed your nuts off and inundate the world with more fruit and seed than it can possible consume.

The last four winters as I remember them locally:

13/14 - Wet - Very

12/13 - Windy - Very

11/12 -Non-descript

10/11 - Cold & Snowy - Very

Every one of them was predicted to be a "bad winter" beforehand.

It's an El Nino year and it's a late El Nino peaking dec/jan. Historical data shows when this happens temps 4c lower on average.

At least that's what the man I read said!

Winter or no winter all the firewood will go at the same price so it makes no diffrance to me a bit of snow on Christmas Eve to make it a bit more magical for my boy is all I ask for.

Every day I read in one paper it's going to be cold the next warm. Get up in the morning look out the window that's how I predict the weather thesa days.

I once read a MET Office paper saying that they can be about 95% accurate for a 24hour forecast, 75% accurate for a further 24 hours and about 50-60% accurate for afurther 24 hours after that unless there are specific well known weather patterns in play etc.

So forecasting after 3 days is likely to be no more than 50% accurate ! Predicting 3-6 months in advance - forget it!
