So I went to price a big ash 4ft across the trunk (big tree)

It hangs out over a main road I would say 60% of the weigh of the tree is road side and 40% his field side

He wants me to dismantle it

I took 1 look across the field at his yard and see he had one of these

I think that should pull it the right way what do u think

Farmer is not to shore

What rope would u say is strong enough to be pulled by a big beasty cat

First plan was have a go at tree jacking

Putting a tirfor in for surport as there is a nice willow to tie the tirfor to

But the cat sound so much more like fun to me

Get 60m of 25mm polyprop from here: Mooring Ropes :: Mooring Rope :: Mooring Ropes For Sale :: Ship Mooring Ropes :: Mooring Rope Sizes :: Mooring Ropes UK :: Marine Rope Suppliers :: Sailing Ropes :: Yacht Ropes

Its always handy stuff to have anyway, and cheap enough to abuse.

put the rope over a branch round the back of the main stem and back down to earth, then attach both ends to the cat. The cat has the power to snap this rope, so you need to be sensible, put your cuts in and some wedges, then gently pull it over.

15 or 18mm steel cable above the first crotch and a steady pressure from the cat, it'll cut like a sapling

HI MOG all the best with pulling out a 15/18mm wire rope you will need a mog to pull out the weight of wire rope:001_rolleyes: how about a 2/3 very long 10ton so over kill to 7,1 safe slings much lighter :thumbup1:thanks jon

Use the heaviest strongest chains, wire ropes, huge ropes you have, the stronger the line, the lower the line has to go.

Look up the trunk for old lost limbs, fair chance she could be rotten.

Don't bother with any boring in, get a huge bar and cut from the 1 side, or just do whatever you feel you should, and the next time you will do it a bit better from what you have learnt!
