measuring rpm on kholer command???

As per title i need to find out what rpm my chipper is running at..

 

engine is a 25hp kholer command.

 

any ideas of how and who?

If it has any form of HT lead, a tach you use to tune a saw should do it! If this bit of kit is multi cylinder then the tach wil need to be set for 2 or 4 cylinder!

 

Bear in mind I know saws and not the item of kit you have in mind!

You can buy an infa red rev counter on flea bay for a few quid, you stick a piece of reflective tape on your flywheel or pulley etc and it measures the rpm, they work well!

I use one of those infra red tacho, the one i have also has a rubber cone on one end for jamming into centre holes on shafts, i find this works well.

looks similar to one i have seen on the side of a jenson i used to use.

 

I have got my hands on one now.

Rubber cone sounds like one we used to measure combine drum speed in the 60's Counter and stop watch or more modern with a proper dial? Of course I was VERY young then.
