If the site you are using used to be a farm I think you should be ok. Do you buy your timber in from forestry? If so forestry and farming are classed the same so no planning or change of use required.

We applied for a grant for our firewood company and needed to prove that we have permission or that it wasn't required. An email to our local council asking for advice sorted it straight away. As we buy in from forestry contractors it means we are reliant on forestry and so classed as such. Not sure if same applies if your taking in arb waste.

I would just approach your local council and see what they suggest. At least it makes it look like you want to do the right thing.

Hi I think you will have to apply for a change of use as cutting up logs is not classed as farming. If you are buying in the cord/round wood it is classed as commercial use and not even forestry the same applies to the farm buildings.

Uless you can prove you have been doing it there for more than 10 years then you can apply for what I think is called permitted development? .

If you check with the defra planning guide it tells you everything on there. thanks
