Plenty of old Wadkins on Ebay Mark. Best to get one out of a joiner's shop who is retiring as these are the cheapest. Quite easy to pick one up for under 2k sometimes. I myself got a Sedgwick MB with a 12 inch capacity, 4 knife Tersa block for a little over a grand. It was about 12 years old and had only planed softwoods in a joinery. All it needed was cleaned up which took a couple of hours and reset. Saved myself 4k on the cost of a new one. Leaves the surface of the wood like a piece of glass!

Picked up earlier today.

Not as fancy as some of you guys big toys but hopefully i can convert some of my planks in to things i can make stuff from!!

 

I've got the same one, brilliant little piece of kit. The only problem i've had with it is the 3 safety trip switches. In the end i disabled 2 of them and just kept one live. Apart from that i love it. Dont use it as often as i should tho.

Thought i'd resurrect this thread as would like to see how your getting on with the metabo?

I have been looking at getting something along these lines for a while. I can't go for anything bigger because of limited space.

What sort of wood will it take? The biggest i would want to use it for is maybe 6x6" posts, would that be asking a bit much of it?

I still dont use mine as often as i should, as i use the one at work instead. However i carnt see any problems with what you want to do, apart from the timber being a little heavy for the rollers, so you may just have to help the timber along. Good machines though, Glad i have mine.

I won't be using it for that size timber all the time, thats probably just the maximum size I will want to put through it.

Do you know what the max size that can be put on the planer? And the maximum height and width that could be put through the thickneser?

 

Does anyone know anything about the Dewalt D27300? Its a lot more money than the metabo though.

I've heard great things about the Dewalt 733 thicknesser. The only thing is I presume if I buy that then i would need a planer anyway to get posts straight before they go through the thicknesser? (unless there is some sort of modification you can do to the 733?)
