Which long arm hedge cutter?

I'm after a new long arm hedge cutter and was wondering what people would recommend?

At the moment I'm looking at the husky 327 or one of the Japanese ones echo, tanaka, etc... It looks to me like the Japanese ones are all virtually the same but with a few minor changes between brands.

I have the Husqvarna 325 ( older model than the 327 ) Think it has a better quality carb than the newer ones , so my dealer tells me . Other than that they are pretty much the same .

i've got 2 echo long reach, been using them for 15yrs or so, highly recommended....

The Stihl hedgecutter heads I have found to be tough. Sadly the long reach hedgecutter engines are still the awful 4-mix. I run mine on FS-70 engines.

 

Do you happen to have a Stihl loop handle strimmer already? That would be the cheapest way to get a pole hedgecutter.

 

I used an Echo polesaw/hedgecutter years ago when I used to work for someone, and really liked it.

I'm using a tanaka loop handled strimmer. Brought it after visiting a stihl dealer I use alot and him telling me all the smaller loop handled strimmers stihl sell are s**t. I've used my father in laws tanaka hedge cutter but doesn't seem like it would with the thick stuff like my old stihl hedge cutter.

If you want to do tough, thick hedges then the only one I'd recommend is Stihl. They take a hell of a lot of abuse. A small Stihl strimmer would cope with a hedgecutter end power wise(they don't need much at all), but really you need a solid shaft drive.

 

If you were to upgrade, I would recommend the FS-94, it's 2 mix, cheap and solid shaft. Don't get an FS90, 100 or 130- these are 4-mix with all the associated problems.
