You beat me to it.

Shutdown not required the 2 tree lengths is if your felling it, if dismantling then a distance of 9 meter is what your looking for. At 9 meters (drip line to pole, or in this case i would go for the stay wire) your outside of the proximity zone and dont need to even tell the power company.

I'd be tempted to give them a price with the fence there, and a price with them removing/risking the fence. If they say they'll take it down or risk it, then just bosh it down. If they want the fence saved, either take it down and re-do it, or take the time and be careful of it. Makes a difference, hence the 2 prices.

Sound advice that, give em the option of moving the fence prior to start work.

Nothing as weird as customers! I've got one who didn't want us to start his hazardous roadside tree dismantle until after he'd lifted his onions. I could have bought him 2 sacks of onions, done the job & saved him £100's, but no, that wouldn't be acceptable!

For working close to power lines, then I suggest that you read ENA G55/2 'Safe Tree Working in Proximity to Overhead Electric Lines' (can be downloaded for free); there is alos HSE guidance. Draw your own conclusions on what the network operator needs to be told and not to be told etc. But if you ignore it and take the power line down or electrocute a groundie, then.........................your choice.

I got the job. Doing it next month.

Regarding avoiding the fence... anyone capable of passing CS39, or whatever the equivalent is, should be able to dismantle branches and avoid dropping them on things. Branch tips wont cause damage, then take hand held sections off, then free fall the rest. Keep my groundie mate running!

Exactly Tommy.

Edbol, your advertising as an experienced freelance climber. Surely you have tackled many, many jobs like that so you should have an idea of how long it will take you. then just multiply by how much you want per hour and there is your price.
